I haven’t had a drink in 22 years. Whether you realize it or not, it’s a pretty remarkable feat for anyone to go from darkness to light in their lives. People often ask whether I’m bothered by other people drinking. I’m not. My wife drinks. She doesn’t have DNA that turns her into a monster when she drinks. And by monster, I mean a completely different person with very bad ideas.
Sometimes I stop and look around and wonder why we do it.
And so I think these things and you nod, but then politely ask me to sit at the edge of the room.
In the beginning, children are grateful mostly because we drill them that gratitude is a responsible and respectful way to be human.
I don’t like giving advice. In fact, I hate it. It’s not that I don’t like helping people, there are just too many variables involved in giving really helpful advice.
We have two daughters – Agatha, who is twelve, and Cozette, who just turned ten. They’re good kids. They don’t cuss.
